Career Pilot Program > Overview

Our Career Pilot Program is intended for candidates of all ages – from college freshmen to graduates, people with commercial and government agencies around the United States.

The Career Pilot Program is structured to allow qualified candidates to enroll at the Academy at any level of training, regardless of previous flight experience. Our unique training modules illustrate the normal progression of our entire program. Graduates will then be eligible for a post-graduate internship as a staff flight instructor and then line job placement. Students with previous flight experience may be eligible for training credit in accordance with the part 141 federal aviation rules.


Course Description:

The Career Pilot course teaches the necessary knowledge and skills to be considered competent in each of 3 different contexts; Aircraft training, line oriented flight training (LOFT), and Ground School / classroom training.

The standard course will include: Cockpit Resource Management (CRM), multi-engine training, glass cockpit training.

Prerequisites and requirements:

To be accepted as a student at American Academy of Aeronautics, you must meet the following requirements prior to enrollment:

— Be at least 18 years of age.
— Successfully complete the flight aptitude entry steps.
— Obtain an FAA first or second-class medical certificate.
— Possess a high school diploma or GED.
— Be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
— Be a United States Citizen, Canadian Citizen, or a permanent resident of the U.S.
— To qualify for initial and some transport-category aircraft training in the ACT program, you must be a U.S. Citizen, and pass all relevant Federal (FAA, TSA, etc.) security checks that are required at the time of enrollment.

Class Dates

Career pilot start dates are the first and third Monday of each month. (When the first or third Monday is a holiday the start date will be on Tuesday). This circular scheduling system allows out-of-town, transferring, and local students to start at any time during the training season. This flexible start is one of the Academy’s highlights that permits the seamless flow of training modules, and is a great factor in reaching seniority when you start your post-graduate internship with us, and later when you are hired by one of the US operators. Aviation is a profession where seniority is a large factor in hiring and assignments.


Class Availability

American Academy of Aeronautics general admission policy is to register incoming students on a first come first serve bases, using a semester per calendar year, once the class date is full, your will be given the option to register for the next available class or be on a standby bases for the next open class date
